Best AI tools for People Ops: 11 tools by job to be done

Best AI tools for People Ops: 11 tools by job to be done

Your exec team wants to grow headcount fast this year, without adding more HR generalists. At the same time, your Slack is filling up with questions about PTO, name changes, onboarding and all the other day-to-day admin that comes with a growing team. You can’t keep scaling People Ops by adding more tickets to a human queue. So the question isn’t really whether AI has a role to play. It’s which tool is actually right for which job.

That's where most teams get stuck. In SHRM's 2024 Talent Trends survey of 2,366 HR professionals, the top reason organizations hadn't started using AI for HR was not knowing which tools would fit their needs (42%), just ahead of lacking the resources to audit or correct AI (41%). The market is noisy. Every HR vendor now has an AI page.

This list is organized by the job you need done, not by vendor category. We kept it to 11 tools we could verify against each vendor's own product pages, and we've been specific about what each one does, what it connects to, and who it isn't for.

How we evaluated these tools

We scored every tool on five questions, and the first one matters most: does it do the work, or does it point at the work?

1. Acts or answers. A bot that reads your parental leave policy and tells an employee how to file is a search engine with manners. A tool that starts the leave in your HRIS, updates the calendar and closes the thread is doing People Ops. Most companies haven't crossed that line yet. Insight222's 2025 People Analytics Trends survey of 372 companies found 86% using generative AI in HR-related work but only 34% using agentic AI. Buying an agent still makes you an early adopter.

2. Where employees meet it. If it lives in a separate portal, adoption tanks. Employees will keep DMing your team. We checked whether each tool works directly within Slack or Microsoft Teams, or only in its own app.

3. What it connects to. Read access to a knowledge base is table stakes. We looked for your HRIS, identity provider, ticketing and knowledge tools named on each vendor's integrations page, and whether the tool can write back, not just read.

4. Permissions, audit and security. HR data includes salaries, home addresses and performance ratings. Ask every vendor for SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 reports, a GDPR data processing agreement, a written guarantee that your data isn't used to train public models, and an audit trail for every action the AI takes. If an employee can't see a coworker's equity grant in Workday, the AI shouldn't discuss it in Slack either. We treated these as questions to put to vendors, not boxes we could tick from a website.

5. Who it's built for. Company size, pricing model and whether the tool replaces a system or sits on top of one. We give the pricing model, not prices, because vendor pricing pages change and most don't publish numbers.

Kinfolk is our product; here's how we'd compare the options honestly.

The best AI tools for People Ops, by job to be done

Start with the queue you're drowning in. For most 500 to 5,000 person companies that's employee support, so that's where the list begins.

HR service delivery and employee support

1. Kinfolk

What it is. Kinfolk is an AI service desk for HR that runs in Slack and Microsoft Teams. Its agent, Kin, updates HRIS records, runs processes with approvals, answers policy questions and generates letters, all inside the thread where the employee asked.

Best for. People Ops teams at 500 to 5,000 employee companies who need to support a growing workforce without adding headcount, and who want the work done rather than routed.

Key capabilities. Auto-triage and routing with SLA tracking. Onboarding, offboarding and lifecycle programs run as runbooks. Letters created, sent and uploaded to the HRIS. Configured in natural language by the People team, no code. Kinfolk's own figure is up to 80% of Tier 0–1 employee requests handled without a human, and roughly 45 days a year reclaimed for HR teams. At Hudl, the results were 70% of requests handled by AI without escalation in six months, 80% of requests meeting first-response SLA targets, and onboarding coordination cut from 60 to 20 minutes per hire.

Integrations. HRIS: Workday, Rippling, HiBob, BambooHR, ADP Workforce Now, Personio, SAP SuccessFactors, UKG, Paylocity, Cezanne, Humaans. Knowledge: Confluence, Notion, Google Drive, SharePoint, OneDrive. Ticketing: Jira, ServiceNow. Identity: Okta, Google. Messaging: Slack, Teams, Gmail, Outlook.

Governance. SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 certified, GDPR and CCPA compliant. Full audit trails, role-based and field-level access control, and Kin asks permission before escalating a request it can't resolve. Read more about how we approach AI for People teams.

Limitations. It's a service delivery layer, not an HRIS, and it assumes your employees live in Slack or Teams. If your workforce is mostly frontline and phone-first, it isn't the right fit. One flat annual plan by headcount tier, with unlimited users, conversations and workflows; quote on request.

2. Leena AI

What it is. Leena AI positions itself as agentic AI for the enterprise back office, with pre-built AI colleagues for HR, IT and finance and a Universal HR Assistant.

Best for. Large enterprises that want one assistant across HR, IT and finance, with HR case management behind it.

Key capabilities. Handles Tier-1 HR requests such as leave, pay stubs, benefits enrollment, verification letters and policy answers. HR helpdesk with automatic ticket assignment and recommended resolutions. Agentic workflows triggered by API, schedules or system events. Voice-enabled.

Integrations. Over 200 listed, including Workday, SAP SuccessFactors, Oracle, ServiceNow, BambooHR, ADP, Dayforce, UKG and Okta. Channels include Slack, Teams, WhatsApp Business, web, mobile, email and SMS.

Limitations. Enterprise positioning: customers cited run from 1,500 to 275,000 employees, and there's no self-serve tier. Pricing on request, either a flat per-employee license or a platform fee plus token-based usage.

3. Moveworks

What it is. Moveworks is an AI assistant platform that searches and acts across business applications for the whole workforce. It started in IT support and now covers HR, finance and more. In late 2025 it became part of ServiceNow.

Best for. Enterprises that want a single front door for employee support across IT and HR, especially those already standardized on ServiceNow.

Key capabilities. PTO balance and policy lookups, employment verification letters, address and legal-name updates, direct-deposit guidance, learning enrollment, HR case submission and tracking. Agent Studio for building your own agents.

Integrations. Workday, SAP SuccessFactors, Oracle HCM, UKG, ADP, HiBob, ServiceNow, Freshservice, Confluence, Google Workspace. Delivered in Slack, Teams, web and mobile.

Limitations. Enterprise-only positioning (350+ organizations, 10% of the Fortune 500) with no public pricing. Its roadmap now sits inside ServiceNow, a plus if you're a ServiceNow shop and a consideration if you're not.

HRIS and core HR with AI features

4. Rippling

What it is. Rippling is an all-in-one HCM covering HR, payroll, IT and finance on a single employee record, and it now markets itself as an AI-native HCM.

Best for. Companies choosing a new system of record who want AI that works across HR, IT and payroll data from day one.

Key capabilities. Rippling AI builds editable reports from live data, gives employees personalized pay, benefits and policy explanations, and runs workflows such as onboarding and attribute changes. Rippling AI for Slack answers HR, IT and payroll questions by DM or @mention, scoped to what the asker is allowed to see. Rippling MCP lets external agents like Claude or ChatGPT use Rippling data under governance.

Integrations. 600+ listed, including Slack, Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Zoom, GitHub, Jira, Salesforce, Checkr and Carta.

Limitations. The AI runs on Rippling's own data, so it's for you only if Rippling is (or will be) your HRIS, not as a layer over Workday or HiBob. The Teams version of Rippling AI is waitlisted at the time of writing. Priced per employee per month, with some products carrying a base fee; quotes on request.

5. HiBob

What it is. HiBob is a people platform for HR, payroll and finance, with Bob AI embedded across it.

Best for. Fast-growing, multi-country companies from under 200 to 1,000+ employees who want a modern HRIS with AI built in rather than bolted on.

Key capabilities. Bob Companion answers employee questions grounded in your company data and policies. Drafts performance reviews from goals and history. Summarizes survey responses with sentiment and themes. Natural-language reporting, job description generation and an MCP connection for external AI tools.

Integrations. Slack (digests, commands, time-off approvals), Microsoft Teams (notifications, approvals), Google Workspace, Okta, Entra ID, Greenhouse, Jira, NetSuite, ADP, Zendesk, 360Learning.

Limitations. Bob AI depends on Bob being your HRIS, and it's a selectable module rather than a default. The Slack and Teams integrations cover notifications and approvals; the vendor's pages don't describe the companion running inside chat. Pricing on request, based on employee count and modules.

Performance and engagement

6. Lattice

What it is. Lattice is a performance, goals and engagement platform with an AI Agent included in every subscription.

Best for. Teams that want AI to lighten review cycles and calibration without changing their system of record.

Key capabilities. Drafts evidence-based reviews from 1:1s, feedback, goals and updates. Performance Summarization condenses the feedback and reviews written in the current cycle into key trends for each reviewer, scoped to what they can see. Review packet summaries for calibration. Engagement synthesizes survey results and open-ended feedback with key driver reporting. Lattice MCP lets you draft reviews from AI chat tools.

Integrations. 26 listed, including Workday, Rippling, HiBob, BambooHR, ADP, Gusto, UKG, Personio, Okta, Slack, Microsoft Teams, Claude and OpenAI.

Limitations. A talent suite, not an HRIS. Published per-seat pricing, billed annually with a minimum annual agreement. The AI Agent is web-first; the Slack and Teams integrations handle notifications, feedback and MCP drafting.

7. Culture Amp

What it is. Culture Amp is an employee experience platform built on Engage, Perform and AI Coach.

Best for. People teams whose engagement surveys generate thousands of comments nobody has time to read, and managers who want coaching tied to those results.

Key capabilities. AI comment summaries turn thousands of survey comments into themes. Feedback is broken down into sentiment, topics and trends. AI Coach surfaces engagement drivers, drafts and refines performance reviews from previous reviews, peer feedback and self-reflections, and offers guided role play for managers.

Integrations. Slack and Microsoft Teams. HRIS syncs for Workday, BambooHR, HiBob, Dayforce, Paylocity, Personio and Gusto, plus API connections for ADP, SAP SuccessFactors, UKG and Deel.

Limitations. Engagement, performance and development only; no recruiting or LMS, and no ATS integrations listed. Quote-based pricing on annual billing, segmented at under 200, 200 to 999 and 1,000+ employees.

People analytics

8. Visier

What it is. Visier is a people analytics and workforce planning platform that describes itself as the workforce AI and context foundation for talent decisions.

Best for. Larger or more complex organizations that need one governed view of workforce data across an enterprise HCM, ATS and survey tools, and want to ask it questions in plain English.

Key capabilities. Vee, an AI assistant that answers people questions from your unified data and doesn't train on it. Vee Boards for executive-level issues. Predictive models for resignation risk and promotion likelihood. Workforce planning and program tracking on top of the insights layer.

Integrations. Workday, SAP SuccessFactors, Oracle, UKG, BambooHR, Dayforce, Greenhouse, iCIMS, Qualtrics, Viva Glint, Jira, ServiceNow, Salesforce, plus data warehouses. Output to Slack, Teams, Power BI and Tableau.

Limitations. It's an analytics and planning layer, not an HRIS, survey tool or service desk, and it assumes an enterprise-grade data setup. Rippling and HiBob aren't listed connectors. No public pricing.

Recruiting

9. Paradox

What it is. Paradox is conversational hiring software built around Olivia, its AI assistant for everything in the hiring funnel.

Best for. High-volume hourly and frontline hiring in retail, restaurants, healthcare, logistics and manufacturing, where recruiters lose days to scheduling.

Key capabilities. Screens each candidate against job requirements as they apply. Syncs with your recruiters' and hiring managers' calendars, then sends open interview times by SMS, WhatsApp, chat or email, handling rescheduling and reminders. Answers candidate questions 24/7. Text-to-apply and QR codes. Onboarding paperwork and offers in the same conversation.

Integrations. ATS: Workday, SAP SuccessFactors, Greenhouse, iCIMS, Oracle, UKG, Lever, SmartRecruiters and more. Payroll and HCM: ADP, Paychex, Paylocity. Job boards: Indeed, LinkedIn, ZipRecruiter. Video: Zoom, Teams, Google Meet.

Limitations. Recruiting only, and tuned for volume hiring rather than niche technical searches. It plugs into your existing ATS rather than replacing it (though it also sells its own). No Slack integration listed. Pricing on request.

10. Eightfold AI

What it is. Eightfold AI calls itself an AI-native talent intelligence platform, matching people to roles on skills inferred from 1.6 billion career trajectories.

Best for. Enterprises with an existing Workday or SAP stack that want skills-based matching for external hiring and internal mobility in one system.

Key capabilities. Matching that looks beyond resumes to adjacent skills. Talent agents: an AI Interviewer, an interview companion that drafts feedback for human-led interviews, a candidate agent across SMS, WhatsApp, web and voice, and a career coach agent for employees. A talent marketplace of jobs, projects and gigs for internal moves.

Integrations. Bi-directional with Workday (HRIS, Recruiting, Learning, Talent and Performance) and SAP SuccessFactors. No Slack or Teams integration listed on the vendor's pages.

Limitations. Enterprise focus, with Fortune 500 logos and content aimed at 1,000+ employee organizations. It sits on top of an HRIS and ATS rather than replacing them. No pricing page; AI Interviewer pricing scales with interview volume.

Learning

11. Sana

What it is. Sana offers Sana Learn, an AI-native learning platform combining LMS, LXP, authoring and virtual classroom, and a broader enterprise AI agent platform. Sana became part of Workday in November 2025.

Best for. Companies that want to turn existing documents into courses fast and give every learner an AI tutor, especially Workday customers.

Key capabilities. Converts SCORM files, documents and PDFs into interactive courses. An AI tutor for one-to-one learning. AI-generated dashboards that answer performance questions. The agent platform automates multi-step processes and finds answers across your company docs.

Integrations. Sana Learn connects to Workday, Rippling, HiBob, BambooHR, SAP SuccessFactors, Oracle, Personio and UKG, plus Okta, Entra ID, Slack, Teams and content libraries like Udemy, Coursera and LinkedIn Learning.

Limitations. Sana Learn plans start at 300 users, so it isn't for small teams. HR isn't a headline solution area on its product pages. Per-user pricing on request for Sana Learn; the agent platform publishes a free tier and per-user team pricing.

Can't we just build an HR bot with ChatGPT or Copilot?

You can, and for drafting it's fine. General models are good at job descriptions, summarizing an employee relations thread or outlining a policy. If that's all you need, your existing Microsoft or OpenAI agreement covers it.

The build breaks when you move from drafting to operations. A general bot can't write back to your HRIS. It doesn't know who's asking, what they're allowed to see, or how to trigger a payroll change. It will happily invent a state-specific leave rule. And every time Workday or Rippling changes an API, your IT team owns the fix.

Most buyers have reached the same conclusion. KPMG's Q3 2025 AI Quarterly Pulse survey found 74% of organizations looking to deploy agents built by trusted tech providers, up from 55%. The exception is a stack of custom, proprietary systems with no modern APIs. There, an internal build is the smarter path.

How to pick the right one for your team

Pick the tool that clears your highest-volume, lowest-complexity requests first, then check it can write to your systems.

Audit 90 days of requests

Pull the last 90 days of Slack messages, emails and tickets sent to your team. Sort them by volume and complexity. You'll find a cluster of repetitive, low-judgment requests. Those are the first things to hand to an agent that can execute HR workflows.

Request type Volume Complexity Automate first? What the AI should do
PTO policy questions High Low Yes Answer from the policy, show the balance from the HRIS
Employment verification High Low Yes Generate the letter, upload it to the HRIS
Emergency contact and address updates Medium Low Yes Update the record and sync connected systems
Complex employee relations Low High No Escalate to a human with a summary, never resolve alone

Test write-back, not just read

Ask for a live demo where an employee updates their address in Slack and you watch it land in your HRIS and identity provider. If the vendor can only show a policy answer, it's a chatbot with a nicer name.

Pilot one cohort

Skip the company-wide launch. Start with one department or one lifecycle moment, like onboarding for next month's hires. Track adoption, resolution time and the share of requests closed without a human. Then widen it.

Don't automate a broken process

If your onboarding checklist has five handoffs and no owner, an agent will run that confusion faster. Simplify the chain, write the policy in plain English, then hand it over.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best AI tool for HR ticketing?

The best tool is one that resolves the request in the conversation instead of routing a form. Kinfolk does this in Slack and Teams, connected to your HRIS. Leena AI and Moveworks are the enterprise alternatives; both include case management.

How do AI tools integrate with HRIS platforms like Workday or Rippling?

Through the HRIS's APIs, ideally in both directions: reading policy and profile data, and writing updates back when an employee makes a change. Check the vendor's integrations page for your HRIS by name, and ask whether the integration writes or only reads.

Will AI tools replace HR Ops roles?

No. They absorb the repetitive, transactional work that fills an HR Ops day, so your team can spend its time on employee relations, workforce programs and org design.

How much do AI tools for People Ops cost?

Most vendors on this list price on request, either per employee per month or as a platform fee. Lattice publishes per-seat pricing, and Sana publishes tiers for its agent platform. Weigh the cost against the admin hours you'd save and the HR hires you wouldn't need to make.

How do you keep employee data private with an AI HR tool?

Ask for SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 reports, encryption in transit and at rest, a GDPR data processing agreement, and a written commitment that your data won't train public models. Then check that permissions are inherited from your HRIS, so the AI never shows someone data they couldn't see anyway.

Where to start

Count the repetitive questions in your team's Slack inbox this week. That number is your business case. If most of them are policy answers, record updates and letters, an AI service desk for HR will clear them, and the rest of this list can wait until your queue is under control.

If you'd like to see an agent do the work in Slack, we're happy to show you.
